Default VC sealing

I have always dabbed some rtv/hondabond on the corners of the valve cover and have never had it leak. There was a guy that said all u have to do is oil the VC gasket and it wont leak from there. I have personally not put rtv in those corners and it ended up leaking. What are your guys input on that?

Oiling the gasket? you oil it so it doesn't dry up and crack like on oil filters. i always put RTV on gaskets for valve covers and they never leak.

It specifically states in the shop manuals to put Hondabond HT on those 4 corners to prevent leaks. Also, if you had noticed when you removed the old valve cover gasket that there was Hondabond HT on those 4 areas. It is highly recommended that you Hondabond HT those areas when putting a new gasket on to prevent leaks.

Agreed, it seems like they always end up leaking eventually if no Hondabond or other RTV is used.

Yep, I've had a lot of friends who removed their valve covers to paint them and put them back on with a new gasket but didn't Hondabond HT or RTV them and ended up with a leak out of those areas.

Do yourself a favor and stop at the dealership and pick up a tube of Hondabond HT. If you want to go cheaper, Permatex Gray is nearly the same, but not as good in my book.
