Default 4 cylinder and hp

I've read or heard an advertisment saying something about one of honda's engine produces the most hp from that many liters or cylinders than any other manufacure, not any engine a specific one i believe, and i think its in an acura, maybe 4 or 6 cylinders. Anyone heard or read something like that before?

What factory 4 cyclineder cars make as much hp as the civic si or more that is NA?

I could only think of the RSX k20 and the S2000 on top of my head

It was the F20C1. 240hp, 2.0L. Its specific output of 120hp per liter has been the highest of any NA production engine.

Doesn't matter though. It's pretty much a useless "look at me" statistic. Any manufacturer could do it; only Honda chooses to do so in automobiles these days. Toyota and Nissan used to produce 100+hp/L engines in some of their JDM cars; I don't know if they still do much of that. Most sport motorcycle engines produce over 100hp/L as well.

Some automaker came out with an engine that produced more HP per liter. Google it.

Also i got another question about the vtec on the k20, If you remove the vtec solenoid (i'm assuming it is removable like on the d16), then peak hp would be around 140ish?
Would the k20 vtecless still be faster than the base model civic? 2.0L vs 1.8L. Or would removing the vtec greatly effect the motor in hp wise other than no vtec?

You'd be removing quite a chunk of the powerband. It would be pointless.

hm well lets think for a minute. Honda vtec engines have two different lobes on the camshafts, the primary is for low end power and the vtec lobe is for high end power, basically designed so you can get the best of both worlds. i would assume that it would greatly effect engine performance. . This is honestly the dumbest question i have read in a while. Disable vtec on your civic and race a base model and let us know the results!

You can get a 263hp 2.0L ford duratec in a Caterham 7; though I don't know if that qualifies as a "production car."

Depends on your power band and goals for the car. If you want good performance and have a high-rpm powerband (like a Si) you want short gears. Longer gears will provide better fuel economy with reduced performance. If you have a really torquey engine like a big V8 you can use longer gears and have to shift less while still remaining in the powerband--go too short and you'll just be roasting tires.

Personally, I like short 1-4 gears and long 5-6; you get snappy acceleration around town and aren't turning 4500rpm on the fwy.
