Is 11.4 Cr at 18 degrees timing safe?

To be honest, I'm not sure. But you'll be able to tell pretty quick once you start her up.
17 degrees seems to work okay, but how can I eliminate the pinging at start up at 18 degrees, it pulls with a lot more torque at 18 degrees.
Read this somewhere:
Your ECU is correcting the ping (detonation) by retarding your spark electronically in 2 degree increments. In other words, you're advancing too much.
