Default detecting timing/retard problems?

Are there any noticable signs that you might have over advanced the timing?

Pinging can be a problem when the timing is advanced to high.

The car will not run as good, you'll experience detonation under a load.. and the car will start rough.

With timing set at 18, you'll be ok with 94 octane. The socali people miss out bigtime on this octane business.

I've run 18 on 92 octane for as long as I can remember. Do that on all my b series cars.

In my street car I run 20 degrees timing (11:1 on 93 octane)

My CX I run 16 degrees (12.3:1 on mix of 9 gallons 93, 1 gallon 110)
