Default Oil For Limited Slip Differential

I have a spoon lsd kit in my transmission. It is doing a lot of clinking and chattering in parking lots etc. I know there will always be some of that, but I would like to experiment with some different oils to see if i can get it to a minimum so i could at least make right turns without it clunking. I don't know what oil is in there now. I called a guy at spoonsports.us he recommended motul 75w-140 and said there is also a additive that allows it to slip more but wasn't sure exactly what it is called. I asked a question like this before but all the suggestions would cost me $75 all together to change the oil so I am looking for something a little cheaper that way I could change it if i want to try something else. So what oils would you recommend as well as additives.

BTW I don't know how to tell what transmission I have to know how much oil it needs. I mean i guess i could just measure how much i take out but that's prlly not the best way.

yeah im pretty sure that is very common apparently spoon lsd kits are very aggressive, im not sure why the previous owner put it in there although i guess it wasn't his daily driver. The guy at spoon says most people don't use that kit if they will be using it for daily driving. He said it is normal that it would chatter when in parking lots, and said that i could just use an additive to reduce friction and allow it to slip more. So i see redline has an additive that they says will reduce chatter it says to add it until the chatter stops, basically it just thins the oil. But the only thing is if you reduce to much friction your syncros may not have enough friction to work properly. So if i start to notice that i will have to change the oil. The thing is i don't really want to spend 70 bucks on cusco oil when i am pretty sure the previous owner prlly put good oil in there I have been through this car and it doesn't seem like he cut any corners. So for know i think i will try using an additive. Thank for the tip about filling the oil know i feel like a complete idiot ha.

I had a JDM ITR transmission on my B16A and I ran GM Synchromesh Friction Modified and the LSD never made a sound.

I believe the spoon is a 1.5 way lsd. I had a 1.5 way in my 240sx and it was a little aggressive in parking lots but it was worth it. I found the motul oils to be decently priced, I think I payed $10 for the oil plus it quieted it down way better than the $50 kaaz oil.

All i know is that of the lsd kits you can put in spoons are the most aggressive. The guy from spoon said that if you are running it with normal oil in a parking lot it will do that because it really is not made for that. While most lsd kits are made to allow a little more slip so they can be used in parking lots and for dd etc.

BTW yashio thanks for the tip they told me to use motul but i couldn't find any for under $25 a quart and i really don't want to pay that much where did you get it and what exactly did they use. Like i said the guy at spoon said in their race cars they run 75w-140 so that's what he recommended. But that is super heavy so i would defintely need an additive for dd, what oil did you run and where can i get it for that cheap thanks...im gonna send you a pm.

I had the same LSD in my daily driven civic with a Y1 tranny and the noise is always going to be there. You cannot compare the spoon LSD to the factory honda LSD's, they are different types so there really is no comparison. I ran the 75-140w oil they recommended along with slip additive and the noise did quite down but it still sounded like you always have a bad CV joint when in parking lots. oh and the wheel jerk from it was always fun aswell.

If the noise is something you are trying to completely get rid of your best bet is to sell that tranny and buy one with or without the factory LSD.
