DC5 - Power Steering to Manual Rack?
Hi all, I've been a member of H-T for quite some time now but this is the first time Im posting here. So Im looking forward to actually participate more and to learn as I go.
First of all, I drive a 02 rsx-s and looked into removing the power steering. I read about the "how-to" of turning the ps into a manual rack on the DC2. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=184202 However, the belt that drives the ps pump on the DC5 also drives the alternator, so I won't be able to just remove the ps belt and the ps pump like on the DC2 (separate belt) even if I looped the input/output lines at the rack... Therefore, I would like to know if there is anything I could do to find a solution to that problem.
Looking forward to hearing from the guys over here in the ITR section (did a search but found nothing in the rsx section...
Thanks!

hmm..good question..although ive never been under the hood of a dc5..im a pretty good tinkerer..hhehe
first question..what tightens the belt?
i.e. alternatoe, p.s. pump, seperate tensioner..
hopefully the alternator...than you might just have to remove te pump and run a shorter belt...crosses fingers
if not. im sure there are plenty of other solutions. good luck

Thanks for the input EPGONZALEZ! I really appreciate it!
well, here's an illustration of how the belt goes in the DC5:

So would there be a source I can look into for a specific length of belt if I can determine the required length for the setup?
Thanks!
ps: my first reply on H-T

Would there be any serious problems if there isnt an auto tensioner acting on the belt? Like if I were to check regularly the tension on the belt to ensure proper tightness, is there any other problems that may arise from the lack of an auto-tensioner on belt?
Also, is there a shop/store where I would be able to find such a belt that fits my application?
Thanks.

the auto tensioner should be no problem...
take your current belt with you so you can match up the ribs..and your just gonna have to buy and try 20 different lenghts....lol
you can always return them...use some string and approximate the length..
then buy a few plus and minus that size..

The 2002 CTR has a dummy pulley in the place of your P/S pump. That's because the CTR has electrical P/S.
Maybe that pulley will fit on your RSX....

Thanks for the info!
Checked that the 02 Canadian Civic SiR (EP3) also utilizes the electronic power steering (EPS) system, so I'll look into the dummy ps pulley... so that the auto-tensioner can do its job just to be on the safe side

Confirmed that the parts are compatible, ordered them, and the dummy PS pulley for the Civic just arrived...
Going to start working on the removal of the ps for the dc5...
Thanks again!
