Honda questions
Hello Folks,
I have some more Accord questions for you folks. A recap of my car :2001 Honda Accord EX sedan with the manual trans.
First question: Do the 2.3 VTEC engines in these cars warm up really fast? I have noticed that I can start the car up on a really cold day and with in 3-5 mins of 20 mile an hour driving the gauge is going from cold to where it normally sits just below the middle of the gauge and I get great heat from the heater. Is this normal? The gauge never seems to go above the middle of the gauge and is very consistant, so the cooling system is good to go. But I was curious if the engine was engineered to warm up fast? (of course I could be used to my old truck which was very cold blooded in warming up)
Second question: I notice that I have lifter tick( sort of a clicking or clacking) when I first start the car up in the morning (or after sitting for many hours until the engine is stone cold) I can hear it loud and clear when I am sitting in the car and when driving(it is heard the most when I am pushing the clutch down in order to shift( i.e. giving it gas when taking off in first gear) after 2-3 mins of driving, the lifter click/clacking is gone. When I get to my job (about 30 miles away) some times I will park it and put it in neutral and push down a few time on the gas pedal and the noise is gone completely. So it seems that after the car warms up the lifter noise is gone. If I come out 10 mins later and start up the car the niose is not there, so it woud seem that this is a cold start up noise.
Is this noise normal on these cars at start up? Perhaps a VTEC valve thing? or does it point to needing to adjust the valve lash etc? The car seems to be full of power and seems to sneak up on 80mph on the highway (it is very quiet)
Thanks for all your help
L

well all engine are sort of engineered to warm up fast thx to your thermostat...but the heat gauge is right where it should be if it sits just below half
also i have the same ticking noise as you when i start my car in the cold so i wouldnt woory about it. i have a very similiar motor to yours...the sohc vtec f22b...and well mine has about 30000km on it and yet i still hear this clicking
