well, if you bought the dry carbon hood, having it cleared will bring out the shiny surface you might be looking for. (Although I don't know if there is a texture on the dry hoods, if there is, simply clearing over it won't look smooth and shiny. You would probably, depending on how textured the hood is, layer the clear on, several coats, then sand it out and buff it.

If you just have a regular 'wet' hood, the manufacture claims that the hoods have a high quality clear coat on them. I would disagree myself. Having owned a VIS CF hood for a couple years, parking out in the California sun every day, made it "fade". Meaning, it turned a yellowish color, not bad, just enough to be noticeable.

It's not NECESSARY to get the hood cleared if it's brand new. Just keep it waxed, like every 30 days, is what I would do, to keep it from fading as long as possible. If it gets to a point where it's so faded that you don't like it anymore, I would say, THEN take it in to get sanded and cleared.

But, you can do whatever you want.

Ive seen alot of CF hoods that are just gel coated and not really cleared. If U want it not to fade I would suggest a good clearcoat that has a UV inhibitor in it

It's about time I get my CF wing cleared. Funny though, it's yellowish on the top, and then almost perfect on the bottom! Cuz it's always in the shade.

I bought a dry CF hood for my Sol and but I havent decided if i want to clear it or not. I layed a coat of clear on my my friends dry CF hood and it came out with a pretty good texture, and I put like 2 coats of clear on it.
