Hey guys i could not find any definite answers as to if a p21w bulb will fit in a 1156 bulb socket. Also what is that wattage of the 1156 bulb, since i want to upgrade my 1156 bulbs to a higher wattage such as p21w in my front and rear turn signals on my EJ8. One more Question do they produce a p21w in amber because i would like to retain the stock color turn signals. Thank you

 

1156 is a single filament bulb. P21W I can see being used to reference both 1156 and 1157 (dual filament) bulbs. That's from a 45 second google search...

Both 1156 and 1157 are 21W (low filament of 1157 is 5W), which might be what the P21W means.

And yes, they make amber 1156 bulbs. Just go to Pep Boys and buy 1156NA bulbs (natural amber). Silvania also makes a Silverstar 1156, which lights up amber but looks blue when off. They're not cheap, but kinda cool looking.

 

The P21W is not going to generate any more light than an 1156. It is essentially just the European equivalent of the 1156, just like the W5W is basically the Euro version of our 168/192 wedge bulb.

Why do you need/want higher wattage?

You may be ably to jam a P21W into an 1157 socket, but the bulbs are completely different. the P21W is a single-filament bulb, meaning it is either on, or off. The 1157 is a dual-filament bulb, with a low-wattage and a high-wattage filament.

For example, your corner lights are dim when you switch on the parking lights, but bright when you use the turn signals. With a P21W, this wouldn't be possible.
