Default Hood latch won't unlock???

For some reason recently my hood latch will not unlock. It takes one person pulling the hood release cord a bunch of times, while another person pulls hard and wiggles the hood. From what I can see nothing is missing and everything is intact. Has anyone had this problem and fixed it? If not I guess I'll have to start searching junk yards. Thanks in advance for any help.

there's a plastic deal that slides in place so that when you pull the release cord, it releases the latch. that plastic piece might of broke and it's sliding in place. get pics up of the latch.

prolly a streched cable but next time you open it try cleaning it up and then lubing it

Where is the plastic piece located? Is it near the hood latch or along the cord?

I did lub it up and it work for about 3 min. of poping and closing the hood but then it went back to not unlocking. And before I put on this lubricating grease I used compressed air to clean out any build up on the hood latch.

I experienced this on my 97 Civic HX and the cable had stretched for whatever reason (probably popping the hood so many damn times ) You can take it off and find a place that makes clutch & throttle cables for motorcycles and they can shorten it up a little bit. (that is if you have a barrel end that fits into the plastic piece @ the hood latch

If you get down and look behind of the black plastic hood release, you'll see the cable. You can tell if it's stretched because you will see it being slack. Temporarily, you could always use a pair of pliers to pull on the cable.

KuEy, you were right. The plastic piece that is attached to the cord is still attached but what happened was it slide out from the sideways U that it mounts to. So when I put it back to where it should be it has tension and when I pull the hood release it pops open with no problems. Thanks for the help everyone!

Anybody know how I can keep that piece from sliding out again? It looks like it is too tight of an area to weld the metal U to make it closed.
