Default timing belt

i installed a new motor in the r and i think the timing is off 180 but i was reading that the mark on the oil pump needs to be aligned with the crank. now i thought it was the mark on the oil pump cover needs to be aligned with the white mark on the crank pulley for t.d.c.

now is there another mark on the actual oil pump or are they just meaning the oil pump cover?

than i lost my spark. i had it. took the valve cover off to make sure i had oil in the head
reinstalled the valve cover hooked up the spark plug wires and no spark i read that the ground on the thermostat housing has some what to do with it and i know it was lose but is
there anything else that might cause me to lose spark.

the car is about an hour away from where i'm at so any pre thoughts that i can get would
before my next trip over there. thanks for any help/and or advice

The mark on the oil pump is so you can rotate you engine in time without that cover. The mark on the oil pump is in the same spot as the mark on your cover.

What exactly did you do when you took the valve cover off. Did you just pull the spark plugs out then take off the valve cover or did you disconnect any clips.

Pretty much what you need to do is just check your engine bay make sure you dont have anything unplugged make sure all your grounds are connected. If everything is good then I would start checking fuses.

so i set the timing up right. the white mark on the pulley with tdc and the cam gears even. just wanted to make sure i didn't skip a step.

now the block is from an obd1 gsr while i rebuild the r block. so no crank angle sensor
but i'm running a chipped p28 so that shouldn't madder, right?

check all fuses there all good. took the spark plugs out took off the valve cover that was it. double checked the connections there all good.
thanks for some advice i will double check everything tomorrow when go over there.

so figured it out that it was the coil it was bad. bought a new one installed it and motor tried to run. the only thing is now the motor runs on cylinders 3-4, 1-2 are not firing.
all cylinders are getting spark and fuel but for some reason 1-2 aren't firing. i'm going to
do a compression test sunday. i don't won't to think that the the valves are bad in those two cylinders. i hope not . but would you guys have any thoughts on this.

the reason for the new motor is the motor died while idleing so i went to restart it and the motor didn't even turn over you could hear the start turnig but the cams wheren't moveing so further inspection the timing belt crank ground off the teeth on the belt.
so it is possable that i could have minor valve damage, right?. the head looked fine when i took it off.

any thoughts?
