Paint Chipping...Why?
I've always wonder why my car paint chips so quickly. I barely drive the car, compare to my Lexus as my daily which the paint is keep up quite nice. My Integra has be paint before and i find that it's chipping alot faster and easier. I want to go complain to the shop that my car has been painted at, but i have no hard information to argue. I've went back and ask why, but they say it's normal for it to chip like that.
I asked them what kinda paint they use and they say PPG, which is a known product. Anyways, i need help, what kind of question should i be asking. What are some of the reason why paint can chip easily? I must say tho, when i got the car..there was hardly or any orange pile. I also notice on my hood, under certain light it's very cloudy. I dunno if that means anything...Anywayz..anything info on the paint will help at this point for me to argue. Thx guys..

most likely they did crappy prep work, where its "cloudy", its either overspray or the clear wasnt applied properly on the last coat and it was not laid wet enough. If its chipping alot on the front bumper they may have not used any adhesion promoter. If its just chipping all over the place than its just crappy work. And you should go back and ask them what LINE of PPG they used. PPG makes a low end line that is not a very good quality paint, they also make a very high quality line, they probably used the cheap stuff to save money.Every paint manufacturer makes a low quality"fleet line" and the quality of the materials is very low.
Generally a alot of the 2k primers require a a adhesion promoter for plastic parts. Bulldog for example or a plastic primer Ppg,Rm,Sikkens,Etc make them all.As for cloudiness this can result on the clear not layed out properly. There's to many variables to be determined when having a paint issue Pics of the bumper can determine "somewhat" the problem. Also how much you paid for the paint job.Alot of question must be asked before you get your answer.

lol. sorry to hear man. but i would say it is due to poor prep work. they either didn't scuff the car down enough or didn't use a good enough coat of sealant before applying the base and clear.
its also possible they used to much hardner... I did that on my first paint job (thought it was mixing ration of was different that what I used and I use 50% more hardner than needed, ended up chipping like hell. But I doubt a shop did that. I would guess shity prep work to save time and money myself!
i painted a car for a friend where the person before had it painted and just used sealer over the oem clear coat without sanding before sealing the car then just painted over the sealer and it chipped like crazy

no matter what they did wrong its not your fault. everyone is right, there is a million reasons what they could have done wrong. tell them to fix it now or you will tell eveyone you know how shitty they are. it is definetly not your fault so why should you deal with it.
by the way, one of the other painters i work with mixed up his clear the other day, it was 2:1 mixure, i watched him poor in his hardener then put it back and pick it back up again and poor it again. i asked what the hell you doing? opps he never poored the clear, he mixed hardener 2:1. when you get in a hurry its amazing what you can do!

My new Si is having the same issues, everything that was painted is peeling off, or getting chipped like crazy every time I drive it. Has to be a crappy paint job, I've never had so many chips, so soon!
