1st Time Tranny Fluid DIY
So I'm changing my tran. fluid tomorrow. I've never done it before and found some instructions on the clubrsx forum. Is there anything I need to be aware of besides the obvious? It sounds like I'm pretty much removing the drain bolt, draining the fluid and then refilling the tranny through the fill bolt.
Are there torque requirements for these bolts? Any other hints/advice?

The fill-bolt torque is 33 lbs; the drain bolt is 29 lbs. (I doubt that you'll use a torque wrench, but bear in mind the transmission case is aluminum, a relatively soft metal. You'll need two crush washers, and the video gives you the part numbers. (The transmission drain plug-washer is the same as the engine-oil drain-plug washer; the filler-plug washer is unique.) The refill capacity (per the owner's/shop manuals) is 1.6 qts; slightly more if you work at it, but there's nothing to be gained from overfilling the transmission.
Now, here's the fun part: Amsoil works, but IMHO it feels sort of thick, even after its warmed up. The absolute perfect mix -- controversial as hell, I'll admit -- is one quart of Honda MTF (Honda part no. 08798-9031, white cap) and the rest (slightly more than a half quart) Mobil 1 10W-30.
And, yes, I know what the manual says regarding the use of motor oil in the transmission --namely, for temporary use, may result in stiffer shifting, change when convenient. To which I respond, Honda recommended motor oil for decades. Read the manual. Check it out. The resulting mix is roughly half as expensive as Amsoil by the time you factor in the shipping costs, and most important, you won't believe how much better it shifts than either Amsoil or Honda MTF alone. Moreover, M1 is damn near bullet proof as a transmission fluid.
