How much should the engine be moving when pulling on the throttle cable? I would say that my engine moves about an half inch to a full inch with moderate throtle cable pull. I really dont feel a lot of vibration while idling at a red light. From a dead stop to go it just feels like a 14 year old car, nothing really significant.

1.Should I replace my stock motor mounts as part of maintnance?
2.Will it give me a firmer feel and less vibration while driving?
3.Should my motor be moving that much while hitting the throttle.
4.What type of mounts should I get? OEM, Can I keep what I have and replace the bushings?

 

First off, physically LOOK at your mount and see if they're torn or broken. Any car with near 200k miles I'd say probably needs the mounts replaced, if they're not broken or torn they've probably gone very soft.

2. Shift cans be more direct, depending on the type of mount used it CAN transmit more vibration through the vehicle. Your best bet is to use an OEM mount in conjunction with an insert. (energy suspension or prothane)

3. It is normal for it to rock, but measurements I'm not sure of.

Exactly how do you know how much your motor is moving while hitting the throttle? It would move more with more load (actually driving on the road)

I just replaced mine (minus the rear since it is a bitch). The driver side mount had totally degraded and was useless. I installed the energy suspension inserts into the torque mounts and these replacements have great improved everything. I no longer have wheel hop and my gear switches are easier and I don't here banging coming from under the hood any longer.

 

good point, if it is only moving that much with moderate throttle cable pull, imagine from a dead stop under load. so you kept the oem mounts and added the inserts?? There is only 3 total, right?

 

There is the transmission and driver side mounts. The inserts to not go into these. THe inserts go into the torque mounts on the bottom to the side and into the rear mount. The rear mount is a real bitch and I haven't figured out how to get the insert and replacement mount in there yet.

The torque mounts are easy to replace. Go to a local hardware store and get 1/4 2-1/2 in. long bolts with a locking nut. I believe 2-1/2 inch long. 2 for each insert. This will be better than the plastic zip tie ES gives you.

 

I will have to research this more to make sure I am doing it right. So it sounds like you just replaced 2 out of 3 torqu mounts?

 

No. I replaced my busted *** driver side post mount. I put in the inserts on my two lower torque mounts. I need to replace my rear mount, but have not done so. The rear mount also has an insert, but since I can't get the mount out, the insert has not been installed.

In total, I replaced one mount and installed two inserts.

More than likely you have busted mounts as well by the sounds of it. My engine didn't even move how you have described yours.
