P2V V2V is it NECESSARY?!
You take a stock engine, add some mild cams, and some High CR Pistons, is it NECESSARY to degree your cams in order to prevent P2V or V2V Contact?! or is it safe to just TDC it all? Would the manufacturer specify it? or should I be so skilled as to know?!
it depends onn your setup,im running s2s2's and need 2* seperation to be safe. 0,0 and the valves slightly touch, and there not considered a real agressive cam. i will also check p2v and degree the cams to be safe, plus its good practice for future builds that may be bigger
what im getting at is,it cant hurt you to learn more and do things yourself. it will only help.

dude you dont gotta be a dick all the time. even i make a few constructive posts in each lunar cycle. yea, the tards wear you out but i think this guys intentions are good.
How am I being a dick? I was being honest. I just think if you have to say that reading "how to do a p2v check gave you a headache", and that "a dial indicator isnt the coolest thing right now", then building engines probably isnt for you. I even said theres nothing wrong with that. Constructive criticism isnt always positive guys.

Here's what I got so far, Checking P2V isnt that hard to do, just clay the motor, and see how close your valves are getting to the piston, degree accordingly. Checking V2V consists of wrapping the timing belt around the cam gears on the head, rotating it untill the valves are close enough but dont touch, and then degree the cams untill you get max lift without your valves hitting each other. Usually consisting of retarding the Exhaust cam a few degrees. Am I close?
Yes. But being able to type it in a forum is far from being able to do it in reality.
P2V is pretty easy to check w/ clay, V2V is much tricker and will take some practice before you get it down.

lol...I saw on TV (Spike's Horse Power TV) were you could use a Tootsie Roll (in the rapper) as a substitute for clay, when checking for P-to-V clearances. Has anyone ever tried this?
Ya thats true, thanks. I guess the most sensible thing to do is to buy a cheap/busted cylinder head and practice!
Not really. The most sensible thing to do, if you dont plan on building many engines in the future, would be to take the head to someone who knows how to do it, and pay them to do it for you. That way, you know its done properly, and you dont have a blown cylinder head lying around collecting dust once you're all done.

Just contact them and ask. Or maybe someone in your area is on the board and will read this and give you some info.
By all means, if you want to try and do it yourself, I am not one to stop you, Im just saying, if youre only going to do it once, it is a waste of money to buy all the tools and spend all that time practicing how to do it.

if you have mechanical ability it just takes time to learn. thats the problem most people dont wanna take the time. they just wanna come on here and have somone give them some magic gear settings that will make there car make "200" whp.
you know if you can or not,if you can do it. its a good feeling doing things yourself and you'll know for sure. if you cant,{nothing wrong with that} make sure you send it to someone that has a really good name. i sent mine to someone at first, but then the settings they told me didnt seem right. some of it was right, and some wasnt, but i wasted over 100$. the expensive leasons are the ones you dont forget
