Tranny makes nose in1st and 2nd gear
I changed my clutch a couple of months ago and my tranny has started making a noise in 1st and 2nd gear kinda like whirling grid sound. The oil looked good, don't know if I should change it or go for a new tranny.
try changing the oil in your tranny first and put some lucas additive in it. if it doesn't get any better, your synchros are probably bad. if thats the case i suggest you buy another tranny. i hope the first thing i mentioned will solve your problem. i had the same problem on my eg, unfortunately it was a bit late for me, so i had to change my tranny
Is it the type of sound when you idle and you push in your clutch and the sound it goes away? If yes, it might be your input shaft bearing, and you might have to crack open the tranny and replace the bearing, or just junk the tranny...

Get back to us when you know more.
my car makes a grinding/rattling noise when the clutch is disengaged, even in neutral, it doesnt get worse with rpm's until a few seconds into pushing and holding the throttle. i can shift in and out, not like butter or anything, but with out problems
sounds like you know alot about the problem I have.

Listen Real Closely to when he has his foot OFF the clutch pedal (Clutch ENGAGED), you'll hear a grind. that will be your Input Shaft Bearing. if it isnt then I need further clarification.

its a swap i just finished, i also changed the tranny fluid a hour before that video was taken. it ran fine in the car it was in before mine. i didnt open it up at all.
that squeak is well known, it sounds like a throw out bearing. my civic used to do that. try this, start the car, open your hood, and pull the throw out bearing rod toward the engine. (Push in the Slave cylinder) see if it goes away, what you are doing is pulling the TOB (Throw Out Bearing) away from the pressure plate so it stops spinning, if the grind does stop then its your throw out bearing, replacing it will make the grind go away, lubing the new bearing with some HIGH TEMP lube VERY CAREFULLY, you do NOT want any lube to get on your clutch plate. that will stop the squeaking. Try that and get back to me, but instead pm me. I feel bad for thread hijacking. My apologies to the OP. Good luck.
I have similar sound in my transmission. When the clutch pedal is depressed you hear the noise. Upon pushing the clutch pedal in it goes away. My noise was cause by two bad mainshaft bearings. The best thing for you to do would be, pull your transmission and inspect your bearings. If you take the time to remove and inspect your transmission, do not relube a bearing that you think is bad. Replace it. My most expensive bearing is $40 to replace. So it shouldnt be an expensive fix.

If you do decide to do this, I would make sure you know exactly how to disassemble a transmission, and put it back together, before you attempt this.. Here's something that will be of great use to you.

i mentioned synchros because that was the problem with my tranny and also the input shaft bearings which i forgot to mention. it had the exact symptoms, the noise would go away when pushing the clutch pedal. i just took off my tranny and got another one for $50.00 from a wrecking yard. the car runs good till this day.
i too have a tranny that makes funny noises. its probably because i replaced the clutch myself and i don't have very much experience so i didnt do the best job. I don't remember exactly but i think i only lubed the throwout bearing with regular old black tube grease and not very much, could this be the source of my problems? if so would it be necessary to crack it open again to lube it properly?
the sound is like a whirring noise that increases with rpm's in low gears and occasionally (for some reason usually when i am turning from a stop) i hear a louder noise, almost like when you put a baseball card in a bicycle spoke.
