Default OBD I Mugen computer

I found an ITR with this listed as a mod. It's my understanding that all 96+ cars were OBD II. Is this correct? Will this cause a problem for me? Any thoughts/opinions? I'm ignorant when it comes to technical issues such as this.

Thanks

All Mugen ECUs are OBD I. If the owner installed a Mugen ECU, then they had to obtain an OBD II --> OBD I harness. This will disable the secondary O2 sensor (catalytic converter), but should not cause you any problems. Might want to make sure that you are getting the stock ECU as well since I don't think the Mugen N1 ECU will pass emissions.

I've been running my Mugen ECU for the better part of 30K miles now on the stock valvetrain, no problems, no adapter needed (on a 97ITR).

I'd like to know why you think it doesn't make use of the knock sensor! Ed

OBD-I does not use a knock sensor. Also see the http://www.hondata.com website and you'll see that a mugen ECU is really not a worthwhile way to spend $$.

To the best of my knowledge OBD-I DOES use a knock sensor atleast on DOHC VTEC engines. I know that all GS-Rs 92+ have a knock sensor.

Grandpa: the car I'm looking @ has other mods (JE pistons & crower cams) & Victor said I should not consider buying it anyway.

The Mugen ECU uses a unique harness that IS NOT the same as OBD1

BPR - who had to buy ANOTHER jumper harness when he switched from Mugen N1 to Hondata

BPR - Have you been able to extract more power since you switched to Hondata?

Does Hondata disable the knock sensor? What is the reason/value of disabling the knock sensor?

Mugen harness adaptor goes from 1999/2000/2001 ecu harness to 1996/1997/1998 ecu plugs. Hondata plugs is 1994/1995 plugs, thats the reason you needed to buy a different harness than the one you had. The Mugen harness is NOT that unique.
