Default muffler or what?

im in high school and i dont have the money to buy a exhaust system right now because of car payments..

so i was thinking about just cutting off my muffler and replacing it with a different one.. i just think that it wont even be loud enough to be worth it, because of the resonator.

what are your suggestions?

So you don't have money to do mods but are trying to go ghetto mods?

Save money slowly, then buy mods. It's not worth the sound if all you're doing is replacing it down the road.

I agree, don't go wasting money on something that won't get you anywhere -_- just start saving and go from the bottom up. Bolt-ons are probably the best way to go

hmmm. i heard axel-backs don't really give you any power, basically the same thing as replacing your muffler

Custom work costs more than buying another axle back. Save up and do it right.

A lot of good responses. So here is just a few notes.

- Like others said, don't waste your money on something in-between, when you are going to replace it later. Save up.

- You are in HS and have a car payment. I assume you will still have a car payment a few years from now. You won't have $$$ for much mods anyhow. So it mods will do for performance probably won't really matter.

- You just want some sound. Magnaflow stainless universal. $100 + $50 to weld = Done.

- Understand there will be exhaust drone. You don't want your ears to bleed. Research it before you buy. AND keep you old muffler just in-case.

- Your profile said age 23. Is there a typo?

Also...keep in mind. Canister muffler + HS student = harassment from the police.

Cheapest, easiest, most basic performance mods are intake, header, exhaust. A little more power and some nice sound. If the cops don't like your loud muffler, get a silencer. Also, as far as sound, I replaced the stock muffler on my 92 Civic with a 14x2.5" sport muffler and it was plenty loud and had a great tone to it. Never got pulled over for it either.

i'd say go ahead and replace the muffler. you're not going to gain much power with a $400-500 exhaust anyway. just get a muffler that's not super flashy and doesn't buzz.

if u are going to just replace the muffle just get a name brand universal. especially if u live in cali. the name brand universal will help with the tickets cause they hold they sound better so u can stay street legal and also make sure that u get a silencer that will help big time.

first off how does it help with tickets ??? really ??? from my experience as long as the cop is an *** and notices your HONDA has a non stock LOOKING exhaust, plus he feels like being an even bigger *** ... your going to get a ticket ... even if your not making to much sound ...

silencer ... if he is still running a stock exhaust his resonator should help enough to keep the sound down ... of course its not only the resonators job but he wont be putting on some 3" melon shooter that sounds like crap hopefully ... and even if he does he will probably have a hard time finding a silencer that will fit plus its more money spent ...

sorry if i sound like an *** but seriously explain the ticket part to me cause im pretty lost ...

well it would help cause it holds sound better. yeah u are going to get pulled over thats a fact. i mean when it hold sound better is that if u take it to state ref (which it is a good thing to do if u get a ticket in my opining) they would sound test it and more likely then not the brand name will pass easier then the knock off ones. i knw this cause i speaking from experience. i had a knock off apex n1 muffle and it didnt pass then i switch same set up just different muffle. the muffler was a tanabe and it passed. i dont kwn i guess that just my experience with the cops and tickets... well thats just my opining about it. i guess it might not work for everybody so i hope that nobody holds me to it well that was my experience.

what exactly is "holding sound"? do you mean supress sound? if you're worried about supressing sound then don't change the muffler at all, as the oem one does it best.

you know as long as you keep your stock cat back and change back to it when you get your write off you wont have any risks ... thats what i usually do but then again i have to store my whole stock cat back in my garage which if you dont pay attention all the time can trip you up when working ... LOL

I want to get a catback system with hangers already installed for my 06 LX. Only thing I'm not sure about is will the new 2.5" pipe mate up with the pipe and flange from the stock header? Its supposed to be direct bolt-on, but you know how well some of that stuff fits...

It's bolt on. Just make sure you order the part number that corresponds to a sedan.
