Clutch Help
Okay this is the situation.... My mechanic gets into my car and says my clutch is loose. He gets a screw-driver and supposedly tightens it. Now when i get my car into first gear, all it does is Rev and barely moves. So is the clutch out or should i change mechanics or both? lol. I have a B16 Engine with a GSR cable clutch. Car is a 91 CRX Si.
either A. the clutch is shot. or B. he tightened it so much that when you release the clutch pedal the cable is still pulling on the clutch arm enough to keep the clutch disengaged from the pressure plate. also, if your mechanic is supposedly adjusting your clutch with a screwdriver, he is a moron and/or an idiot. to adjust a cable clutch you grab the large plastic retaining ring that sits in front of the tranny that the clutch cable goes through. by loosening or tightening this you adjust where the clutch is going to grab.
yep. loosen the cable till you are able to move the release arm up and down with very little force. then pull it all the way up till you feel the throwout bearing hit the pressure plate, basically once it feels like it won't move any further. then tighten the clutch cable down pretty snug to hold it in this position. this should get the clutch release pretty close to where it needs to be. if afterwards it feels like its engaging too high or low during the pedal travel, then adjust accordingly.
