i am currently having problems troubleshooting my 2001 s2k cant figure out why the car is throwing a random misfire cel....


i have checked for spark in all cylinders and there is spark....
ran compression check on motor... 215 across the board...

just to note this motor is not the original swap that had came from the factory...
bought this motor from jdmcorp in richardson tx.....

car runs and drives ... but cant pass emissions for greensheet
and no you cant cheat emissions on new cars!\

i did change the spark plugs with new NGK's
the coil packs are working on the car....

hrmmm very tired of troubleshooting need help from some of my fellow honda-tech's

note: i onlypump the best gas 93octane premium

what do you mean it won't pass emissions? does it run too rich?

random misfire.... air filter... spark plugs (did you check the gap before you installed the new ones?).... injectors.... bad gas (are you 100% sure you put premium?)...

what cel is it exactly?

 

how many miles on it??? we ran threw a couple that needed valve adjustment with misfire codes..

 

i havent done a valve adjustment at all since i dropped the motor... the motor is a jdm swap i purchased 3 months ago... the body has 80k.... the motor should have 60k miles as i was told from JDMcorp in richardson,tx.... hrmmm would a valve adjustment really cause a misfire to occur???

 

you could have a bad ECU or bad coilpacks. My car has been doing it for a year now. Just havent gotten around to fixing it.

 

Mine was doing that last week, 300 bucks later from a valve adjustment and new Plugs and it's running beautifully

 

Bad coil packs.

I know you said the coil packs are working, but it's typical for coil packs to appear to work properly. However, a misfire is just a little hickup with the coil packs, but it's a failure. The early model S2000's had some issues with coil packs failing.

 

ok update::::: i have just checked the gap on the spark plugs, map whacked test, checked the valve clearance,check injectors and cleaned them, put in lucas injection cleaner in, everything checked out fine....but still the code pops up P1399 random cylinder misfire!!!!! grrr im really getting impatient with the thing... i wonder if i can pull off some coil packs off another car and test it to see if the CEL goes away ... thats the most forsure thing i can bet my money on ... what do you guys suggest????

 

i suggest what you just said. You are gonna have to get a new coil pack and do some trial and error. Go to Honda( hope you have a buddy that works there) and pick one up. 83 bucks or something for one.

 

The randomness of the misfires are a clear indication that they are most likely than not the coil packs.

 

i had the same problem random misfires, random cylinders and i swapped injectors for some new ones and it cured the Problem i was throwing a CEL at the time. coils, plugs and none of it worked.
