Type-S Clutch Noise
So I noticed yesterday that my clutch/tranny is making a squeaking sound (similar to when a fan belt needs lube) when the car is either in or out of gear and the clutch isn't depressed. For example, when idling, if the clutch is out it makes the noise...but if I put even just the slightest pressure on the clutch pedal it will go away. I also notice it when I'm in gear and moving.
It's not that loud and it comes and goes. The car only has 50k and it's an '04. I've read it can be anything from an adjustment to a bad main shaft bearing. Any ideas?

Assuming it is that, what's involved? Is this an expensive repair?
I drove it 14 miles during lunch and it didn't make the sound now.
What about the possibility that it's an input shaft bearing? Doesn't a throwout bearing make sound when the pedal is pressed?
Since it takes hardly an pressure on the clutch pedal to stop the noise, would something as simple as an adjustment in the play of the pedal do anything?

try bleeding the clutch..checking your cables you know examine...have a friend press and depress the pedal while you search for solutions. I say throw out bearing...has the car been in a flood or driven through a heavy down pour or on large puddles of water?
You could try adjusting the pedal but I don't see it having any effect in my head? A throw out bearing isn't that hard if you've removed a tranny before... My buddies throw out bearing is out right now, makes noise everywhere lol poor civic
Quick update...it's been a couple of days of above average amount of driving and the sound is gone. I drove it around for a while on Friday after work and the sound was gone but returned later that night...and then went away again.
xxjokoxx, the only puddle I recall driving through recently was when we had a significant downpour in October...but it wasn't necessarily a huge puddle. It was as I rounded a corner...didn't see it coming. I've done this numerous times before with other cars though.
Type-'S'paz, I've talked to my buddy who's familiar with this stuff and he thinks it could be the main shaft or throwout bearing as well...but he didn't rule out a clutch adjustment. The oddest thing for him is the minimal amount of pressure needed on the pedal to stop the noise. He also thinks it may be a temperature-related issue...not to say the bearing may be going out but for now it's only affected by cold temps (as it seemed to not make the noise on the warmer days this weekend).
Stay tuned.

This is sort of old, but I might have some decent advice for you...
It could also be your pilot bearing, but if you're taking it apart you might as well replace both. You should probably invest in a new clutch assembly also, since regardless of what it is has probably done a number on it.
Other than that I'd say your clutch is toast, & the rivets under the pads are probably grinding against the flywheel, which would vary in amplitude depending on the temperature. If you can do it yourself, you're looking at maybe $200 in parts. If you need a shop to do it, I'd set aside a good $700-1200 depending on your location, setup, & the shop.
