Default VAFC: will it fix running rich?

98 Prelude with H22a obd2 swap.
CAI, stock.
My friend is going to sell me his VAFC for 50 dollars.
My car runs rich right now. I believe its due to an o2 sensor.
I believe this because it has thrown the code for the catalytic converter twice, and I've just cleared the code.
So my question is if I install the VAFC and have it tuned will it stop my car from running rich?

wouldn't replacing the O2 sensor work too?

I'd try to fix the problem at hand with the right parts before you add a VAFC. Don't buy a bosh o2 sensor. I've had mine for a year and works okay but lots of people (almost everybody) said they suck.

Your tuner can adjust the AFR with the VAFC though so its not a bad idea. Id jump on that vafc for 50 bucks if it works.

How far you wanna take this though? That 50 bucks could be saved to get a programable ecu with a tune (with conversion harness obd1 to 2) later on.

Im not trying to take the lude far at all. Just a reliable dd. Its got a pretty bad power curve. Then again its the only h22a I've ever driven so I cant really say. When VTEC is fully engaged at 5700 it gains way more torque then it should be. Not smooth at all.

Yes, a VAFC will help with running rich if you get it dyno-tuned. If you decide to get it, also get the PnP harness.
