My buddy bought one and did the rebuild as seen on some of the threads and it worked well for him and he loves to do burnouts and beat on his car haha. From reading I've heard the materials used to build them are good it's just the people that assemble them don't take care. Also something like replacing some washers inside but don't take it from me, search and read up.
Im going to fix it before I put my motor back in, but the place where the c-clip on the axle is locked in isnt angled..So when you try to pop the axle out it doesnt let you.
I just have a rod I stick threw from the drivers side have one person pull and the other hit on the axle, 3-6 times it will come out..Grab one of these
and relax, because its a pain..

i slapped mine in right out of the box with no issues but most of the time when you take them apart somethign is put in backwards as far as the spring washers go. it will work fine out of the box though. and yes they fixed the axles stickign problems a few years back
haw about shimming? I have one and I'm afraid to put it in because somebody said that you have to shim them. Do I have to shim OBX LSD or it just OEM type-r ones you have to shim?
when you put any differential into a different case you need to shim them. there to a larger gap then need be from the factory and they shim the diff so it doesnt move back and forth.
Take out the axel seal
remove stock shim
and measure
and calculate what shim you need
a helms will help you alot.
search for obx rebuild on h-t.
there is alot of info.

Mine works fine. Like everyone has already stated. Take it apart when you get it to make sure everything is tight and not misaligned or stripped. They usually put the washers in at random, so it's good to check them out as well.
the axle problem has been fixed. ive had good luck with my obx, and i know its been in the same tranny on 400-700+hp cars for the past few years in a row no issues
yeah up to .004" is how much endplay the diff should have. So you should be able to slip a feeler gauge of .004 or smaller between the carrier bearing and the housing when the diff is pushed all the way to the other side. The OBX diff is wider than an oem one so you will likely need a shim that is thinner than honda sells. Many people use an old oil control ring. I did and it brought it right into range.
