Icon3 93 civic 2dr-broken spedometer?

I'm a girl-know very little about cars...my speedometer doesn't always work, sometimes does, sometimes flickers, sometimes the check engine light will come on when it doesn't work. I don't know if there is some kind of sensor on the engine or what?? When the speedometer doesn't work, neither does the odometer. Everything else seems to work ok, or as ok a 93 civic can work..any help/thought would be appreciated!!

it probably isnt broken. this happened to me over this last weekend cause of all the rain. all i did was clean out the corrosion in there and dryed it off, plugged it back in and it was fine. make sure to get a seal to keep water out of it.

Thanks guys I got it. I had similar symptoms as the OP. My speedometer would work fine for a few minutes and then just drop to zero.

I ordered THIS. It cost about 20 bucks after shipping and fixed the problem.
