this would be mr neonxiii's turbo setup and we cant seem to figure out what the noise is. The valves are supposedly adjusted properly so who knows whats up with it
Clearances were all checked etc. The only thing not checked on this motor was the head. It suffered oil starvation the first time it was running so the whole bottom end was redone. New crank, new bearings etc. The head however was untouched so my guess is it is something to do with the head. There is crower valvetrain in there as well. Hope that helps anybody who wants to add some advice.
use a mechanic's stethoscope. Only way your going to find that sound is by isolation. Or the long hallow tube to the ear trick. Pick one and NAME....THAT....SOUUUUND!!!!, Honda-Tech's favorite game!!

if it was run dry...did they fill the rocker channels when they put the head back on. Were all the rockers put back in their original place? Cam lobes could be excessively worn as well
valvetrain always sounds loud on videos but my crower stage 2's with springs and retainers was very loud from day one....it just comes with higher lift cams i guess....
just an update on this, i found it in a random google search lol and felt like replying. the valve lash was off a little bit when i adjusted it, but not enough to alter the sound. blake (98vtec) was the one who set it initially after the rebuilt, then after travis kept asking me about the noises i told him to have the valve lash double checked. so he had a local mechanic check it and readjust it. i cant say if it was adjusted properly or not by blake because i wasnt there when he did it. but i can say almost every rocker was adjusted incorrectly when i got to it shortly after this local mechanic did it.
all of the noises it is making in this vid and now currently is due to: the stiff motor mounts, and the wicked stiff valvetrain.
i recently installed a "new" excellent condition used oil pump on this engine because the one travis had me and blake put back on when we rebuilt the motor was shot to hell after being starved of oil and having lots of crank wear allowing the crank and center pump gear to flop around all over the place. the motor is now solid as a rock and runs wonderfully, just noisy, as with any non-vtec honda motor with ungodly stiff valve springs.
just as a quick background of the motor, i was the one that originally built the motor from the ground up 100%. i was NOT however the one to install the engine in the car. travis picked the motor up from my shop once it was completed, and he was well aware of the fact that it had less than a quart of oil in the engine when he picked it up; all residual oil from the assembly process. he had a shop local to him install the motor in his car, and we are unsure of what really happened whether they never added oil to it or never primed the oil before initial startup, but only a few miles after he picked the car up the oil light was on and the dipstick was dry and it was knocking, and it required more than 2 quarts of oil just to get it to even appear on the dipstick. and of course it was during the ring-seating procedure that this occurred, so it was some seeing some load (boosted) and some rpms.
it was after this that i took a trip to his place to tear it down for inspection and found the crank to have so much wear on every single journal that it could easily be seen with the naked eye, yet surprisingly the bearings appeared brand new still. shortly after that was when blake and i (mostly blake, i wasnt available for the entire process) rebuilt it.
the shop that installed the engine in his car has a nice reputation of having mixxed reviews, where lots of customers are completely satisfied, and lots of customers are going to small claims court over their work.
ok, im done rambling, time for bed, almost 4am lol
(wow, i really need to update all my stuff on this site haha. i'm on preludepower daily, in case any prelude enthusiasts feel like joining us over there)
