Fender bender hit&run photos
Hi all,
New to the forums. Last Friday I left work to find somebody crushed my 2006 4door LX driver's side fender and took off without leaving a note. The damage is basically isolated to the fender. The driver's door was missed. The fender was crushed enough to damage what I believe is the wheel well. When I lift the hood, it appears the engine bay is not affected. Right now I can only open the door enough to squeeze in, otherwise opening it any further causes the door to rub on the fender.
My insurance deductible makes it not worth having them fix it. I don't have experience with Bondo but heard enough negative reports that I'd rather avoid it. I could be wrong but I don't believe a paintless approach is going to fix this. Also, there's trace residual white paint from the impact anyways.
A friend recommended a local bodyshop he had used years ago on his old accord. They quoted me $850 for a new original fender or $620 if they can find a matching one at a junkyard.
Money's tight right now so my questions are:
1. Are these fair estimates?
2. Would it be sensible for me to find the part (with matching paint) by myself and ask them to only charge labor?
3. Can I replace this myself? So far google searches don't show any real diagrams, just some suggestions about removing some bolts and plastic clips. I am still unsure if the front bumper needs to be removed. Also unsure if I could really bolt on a new fender as the internal lining has been pushed in.
