Is it necessary or benificial to reset the ECU, after installing an AEM cold air intake and a new exhaust system? Thanks for any info. PEACE OUT!
I don't know. I didn't feel any difference when I reseted mine after intake and exhaust. From what I hear though... the ECU will adjust after you reset your ECU to give a better fuel mixture since you change some things.
Now I just reset after I fix a few codes after a swap. I don't even let it idle that long after I reset it, I just reset it, let the engine turn on for a minute and shut it down then I drive it. While I was helping a friend out with some swaps and clearing codes out, we didn't notice any improvements letting the car idle for a while versus just reseting it, turn the motor on and shut it down. It ran the same, no power difference, no mileage difference, nothing I can feel or see. Fuel ratio stayed in the same pattern (autometer guage) and drivability was all the same.

yes, you always want to reset the ecu after you make changes to the motor. **** like cams, intake, header, exhaust, basically anything to do with the motor. unplug the hazard fuse under the hood fuse box, leave it unplugged for 10 mins, then plug it back in, start the car and DONT touch the gas at all, let it idle for 5 mins. thats the best way.

10 mins unplugged is a long time
remove fuse or batt cable for a minute , then replace
turn OFF all acc.
start car and let idle for 5-7 mins , DO NOT touch the gas
DO this after every little mod

After you guys do this, do you notice any difference since you do this after a mod? I don't and as long as it clears my codes out after I fix the prob, that is all I do it for. I tried many times to see if I felt any difference, but I don't... Do you feel anything after doing this?

I just reset the ecu yesterday, and I must say, I do feel a difference. The car revs a little quicker, and it even sounds a little different. The only mods on it are an exhaust and an AEM CAI. The exhaust is fairly new, a couple weeks old. But the intake has been on for over a year without ever resetting the ecu. Could there be any adverse effects on the engine(like carbon build-up) while running the engine with the intake installed on the stock ecu settings? Thanks for any info. PEACE OUT!

I asked this question a couple days ago, it appears that the hazard fuse only gives the ECU power when the car is off, then it switches to the other fuse by it labeled ECU. So if you didn't have a hazard fuse it's like your always resetting your ECU every time you turn your car off. Also after doing a Cold Air mod my car was idling horribly, when I hit my gas the RPMs would drop, resetting the ECU fixed this instantly.

When I reset the ECU, I removed both the ECU and the Hazard fuses. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Thanks for all the replies! PEACE OUT!
