Motor Swap Question
Hi, i have a 1995 Honda Accord with a stock 2.2L motor that is 5spd..now i want to change the motor to a 2.2 VTEC..i was wondering if an automatic motor would work? and if i come across a vtec motor from like a parts car or so..what parts would i have to swap out?
I was told i can use an automatic vtec motor as long as i buy a new bearing that goes in the flywheel area? is that true?

1. There is no such thing as an automatic or manual F22 engine. They are not like the F20b's 200 Hp A/T & 220 Hp M/T. Honda didn't make two different F22B1's with Hp levels to match the transmissions. So yes any F22B1 will work.
Parts that you will need to swap are all the ones the VTEC motor has that your Non VTEC doesn't. ie VTEC ECU and adding the VTEC wires to your harness. Deciding if you want an internal coil distributor (B1) or keep your external coil distributor (B2). All the mounts and sensors (except the VTEC solenoid and pressure switch) are the same.
as for the trans hooking up. You use everything off your old B2 engine & trans. You may want to do a clutch kit replacement, including the throwout bearing, while you have the transmission and block apart. That's just convenient general maintenance, not a necessity.
Check the FAQ's for more in depth information into doing the VTEC swap.
Cheers & Good luck

that helps alot..what do you mean by internal and external coil distributor? also i was told the non-Vtec and Vtec harness' are the same except the V-tec harness has a wire for the solenoid..which i am gonna hook up to a switch
F22B2 has it's ignition coil externally mounted to the cylinder head. Therefore the F22B2 has two distributor wire connectors. The F22B1 has it's ignition coil inside the distributor and all it's wires are in one connector.
IIRC the F22B1 & F22B2 wire harnesses have a few minor differences. The B1 has two VTEC connections, It has the FIA or Fuel injection air control system, and only has 1 connection for the distributor.
When you say your going to hook the VTEC solenoid up to a switch, are you not intending to run the EX- VTEC ECU and connect directly to that?

i don't get what you trying to say about the switch..but i'm going to change my non-vtec ecu to a vtec ecu..but i don't want to go through the hassle with the wire harness...same thing my cousin did, he just hooked the "vtec kick-in" (i'm guessing solenoid) to a switch..he had a fireball come out in 3rd gear with the switch on
Oh you don't have to do the the VTEC harness swap or an ignition coil conversion. If you want to add and move wires in your B2 harness.
You asked a question about parts that you would have to swap out......I gave you a simple list but it seems that you already had the answers. Why would you bother wasting time if you know someone who did the swap and already know everything? If you have any more problems you should go ask your cousin. He's the one with the on-demand VTEC....lol
And I still don't get at what you are referring to when you talk about hooking your VTEC to a switch. If you are going to use the VTEC ECU and wire up the VTEC solenoid and oil pressure switch properly, the ECU is the switch.
