Default 96 dx wont start

Hey i got a 96dx that i bought off my friend. He couldn't get the original engine to start so we swapped in a 99dx engine in it with 99 engine harness and all the wiring. But then he started switching hella stuff out and now i dunno what he did. The car turns and everything but i tested everything and just came to the conclusion that the distributer wont give out a spark. it works fine in my gsr but wont spark in my ek. also when i just connect the battery the battery and cluster lights turn on. i dunno if there is somekind of problem with the wiring or if it short circuited or something. dunno why there isn't a spark. can anyone help?

Sounds like a possible bad ignition switch.

well the ignition is broken so i just put in anykey and turn it but the engine wont start, wont give out a spark for some reason but the same distributor works fine in a different car.

Sounds to me like a possible wiring problem.

might be a ECU issue. you say your car is a 96 which would be OBD2a and the motor you got is a OBD2b... otherwise switch engine harness and see what that does...
