Default Hatchback Automatic

Just bought a 1995 civic hatchback this weekend for $500 at a car auction. The car runs great but thinking about getting a vtec engine within the next year. My question is can i still haul *** even though it's an automatic?

Not so much. The body looks good and straight, seems to be rust free. Seeing as how auto to manual swaps are relatively simple and you plan on doing an engine swap anyway, swap in a 5 speed.

I had a 95 coupe with auto/1.5 that was way faster than my old 94 hatch 1.5/manual...
My auto flew, would smoke the tires from a dead stop all the way into 2nd.I think it was some freak of nature

A 5spd trans will not be faster, but will allow you to accelerate better and hold the gear longer. You also will get better MPG.

IMO I would keep the automatic, and just find another shell to cut up. I myself, can't wait to go back to an automatic car. Driving 5spd gets annoying some times.

I suspect the hatch was a CX with the 70hp D15B8 boat anchor. The coupe was probably a D15B7 putting out 102hp.

If you find it annoying you're probably doing something wrong, you shouldn't even really be aware of what you're doing, you should never have to think about shifting or taking off, it should all be very natural.

It is very natural to me, I've been doing it for a few years now. I sit in traffic alot and IMO it gets annoying to me.
