i would suggest just swapping the transmission first. she can keep her honda, and she'll get the chance to learn how to drive stick, which is much more fun

then hit up the FAQs to see the pros and cons of swaps and what swaps are open to you

well since you have to swap the engine, you can just throw in a manual trans with it while your at it

I agree.
since you're thinking of beefing up the motor (possibly?) take advantage of it to swap the tranny, in many cases getting the tranny and motor together in not as expensive as some people would think.

Edit: Once she learns stick, she'll never want to drive anything else.

JDM D15B Vtec or a D16Z6. Thats about all you can do before you get into a complete wiring mess trying to wire in a TCM for a B-series automatic. Honestly if you can talk you wife into learning to drive stick you will have a lot more options for a swap.

What does the OP's question ask? Nothing about a manual swap. He wants to know what motor he can swap in with an AUTOMATIC TRANS. I have no idea, but Im sure someone knows the answer to this.

If you're really set on doing a swap, I'm pretty sure you can drop in the k20a3 out of a base model rsx, which I'm pretty sure came with both manual and automatic gearboxes. Not a cheap swap by any means, but something to consider.

K series even with an auto=FUN FUN FUN!!! your cheapest route is to get the JDM D15B seeing how any good importer sells very low mileage motors, usually around 30k on them where as a D16Z6 was sold here in the states and they all have high mileage on them....i find D15B Vtecs with auto trans and ecu all day shipped to my door for about $1000 and it's a direct swap and more power....if she is dead set on an auto trans stay with a D series engine as the B series are high as crap and usually are for people who are hardcore tuners with a manual trans

You can keep the car non-vtec, or add VTEC by running 2 wires through the firewall, splicing wires into the ECU harness and buying a new ECU.

NON-VTEC swaps:
D15B7. These are super cheap, and there's nothing wrong with it.
D15B (NON VTEC) These are cheap also, and should be pretty similar to your D15B7, except it's an imported Japanese engine.
ZC- These are 1.6 liter engines, and some can be found in the non VTEC variety. They're reasonable, and like the D15B non VTEC, it's Japanese

VTEC swaps-
D16Z6 These are more expensive, but give about 25hp more than the D15B7
D15B VTEC- These run around $600 sometimes, and make 5hp more than the D16Z6

Other swaps:
K series- This is very expensive, and would only be reasonable for someone seeking lots of power.
B series- More expensive than swapping another D series in, but requires a new transmission, shift linkage, axles...
H/F series- Forget it. It looks like it would be the most bang for the buck, but it's unnecessarily expensive and difficult for someone who likely doesn't even want that much power.

I say to find a D15B VTEC or non VTEC, or a ZC. They're cheap, low mileage, readily available. Whether you want to bother with VTEC or not for her is your decision.

What the hey is wrong with most of you guys, the man said it's his wifes car and wants an auto, whether or not you think a stick is more fun for you, she wants an auto.

In reply to your question if you want to keep the same transmission, any "D" series engine will work.

Not a good idea. The wiring involved makes it not worth doing. You need to wire up a TCM for the automatic transmission and its not easy.

Forgot about this one, but OBD1 DOHC ZC. You can get the stock P06 ECU chipped for it too.

I just swapped a 95 dx (d15b7) auto to a d16y7 manual. It was a bitch to swap, but i was going ek->eg so thats probably y. Its definately a good motor, super durable. Picked engine and transmission up for 600. So theres always that as a option.

B series auto trans actually wont fit the chassis. You'll have to notch the frame. There is only one exception: 92 or 93 B18A auto. But the B18B wont fit without cutting.

TCM isn't the worst thing in the world but there is ZERO information on the internet. That's only a problem for people that rely on the internet.

Just get her a JDM OBD1 D series (SOHC). Who cares if it's even VTEC.
