kandy basecoat over what?
when spraying a kandy basecoat, does it have to go on top of another base? Or can you just spray directly onto a sealer? Or is one better then the other?
If I sprayed a red kandy basecoat would it show up better/nicer on top of a metallic paint with a red tint to it?
Any other comments about kandy basecoats?

youcan lay candy basecoat on sealer, its up to you if you want to lay something else down first to change the outcome of the final product.Your candy basecoat should not be some transparent color like your midcoat. it should be exactly like laying basecoat, which is what its purpose is. to change the effect of the upcoming midcoat colors and deepend them up or what not. If your spray candy basecoat on top of another red, youll just end up with a slightly different color than its supposed to be, and if you spray it over a lite color, than youll end up with a lighter shade in the end. Your midcoat is dependent upon the basecoat, you change the initial basecoat and youll get a change in the end result. the underlying sealer and basecoat all effect the overall end product shade.
Ok lets start off by finding out exactly what you are spraying. 1 Is it a real Candy or a Candy Look bascoat? Real candy is transparent and has to be sprayed over a certain color basecoat to give you the appropriate final color. Real candy will be transparent and look like a tinted clear coat. Real candy has to have apx 4-8 coats to build the desired depth and color you want. Candy basecoat will not look like real candy when you are done. If you have anymore question feel free to hit me up bro
Yes, it's a Kandy basecoat specifically. (Not real kandy)
Traditionally, when you spray a real kandy, for exmple, a kandy apple red, you would lay down a gold metallic underneath that for maximum richness in color yes?
If that's correct, then could you do the same thing for a kandy basecoat? Or would it just get darker as mentioned previously?
What would the difference be for spraying a kandy red basecoat on top of a silver basecoat versus a kandy red base coat over a gold basecoat?

your not going to get much variation spraying a BASECOAT over another BASECOAT, gold and silver underneath will yeild you pretty much the same result since they are both lighter colors with less pigment. Spray one over WHITE and one over BLACK and you will get some differences simply from how many coats were needed to cover something. Dont waste the time or the extra money on spraying a basecoat, underneath your basecoat, since your not spraying true candy than its kinda pointless. unless of course you looking for something really dark, than use a black sealer and youll end up putting like 6 coats of base on there, which would pretty much suck cause its gonna build up and get textury. Do true candy or none at all.

Well put and I totally agree. Kandy base is a joke
yes, yes it is. thats why it has to be true candy, or just stick with a solid base or a metallic or something. I dont mind basecoat pearl effect paints, but you can totally tell what is a true midcoat and whats not. same goes with candy paint. break out the real stuff and spend the loot, or dont even try to front like you have a candy paint job cause someone who knows will call you out on it, than you feel mass amounts of fail, ha.

You guys got it twisted....
I DON'T want kandy, I don't want something that looks like kandy, I don't want to try to imitate kandy, and I don't want some cheap kandy.
I just wanted to know if layering different color basecoats on one another would change the outcome.
Thanks for everyone's help.
I think I know what I'm going to do now.

exactly. look at your title.
and like Ive already said and precision just said, if your trying to change the outcome of your desired color, spraying it over certain other colors will change the end result shade.

Thanks for your response.
I've decided to lay the kandy basecoat over black. To make it darker. That's what I wanna do.
just remember how the paint is sprayed exactly cuz if you ever need to repaint and you dont have some left over or if you dont remember the mixture then you will be in a predicament as well as remember your air pressure size tip on the gun ect
Thanks dudes, I'm starting to lean towards just spraying directly onto the sealer. For the reasons mentioned above, repairs. And to snip a bit off the price.
good luck making it look nice, your gonna need mass amount of paint to cover up a dark sealer to get the result you want. better off with going with just a darker color to keep the paint from building up and looking super textury, just a forewarning. ONE coat of sealer MAX if your want the best looking result, sealer tends to get textury very easy, and considering how much base your gonna need to cover up a really dark sealer, better to go lite on the coats with the sealer. sealer will bleed through for the first few coats, allow yourself a couple extra minutes of flash time for the sealer and the base.
