obd1 h22A into obd2 lude
I have a 96 prelude and a h22 obd1 engine. Need help with the wiring of the distributor. I am using the Prelude obd2 engine wiring harness and I need to wire into the Ob1 distributor.
Cant you just use a obd2 oil pump with crank angle sensor? Also use obd2 injectors, this being becuase (from what i thought) the obd2 injectors dont use a resistor box. Also...use a obd2 dizzy. this is what i got in my head that i would think work.
This reeeally needs to be added to the FAQ.. this is the second time I've answered this same question, and I've seen some ***-backward ways to do this in the FAQ.
I know there is another thread related to this, just trying to make this info easier to find.
Objective:
To convert OBD2a Prelude with 4 pin distributor and oil pump mounted CKP and TDC sensors to an OBD1 style distributor. Useful when trying to eliminate defective (and expensive) difficult to reach, oil pump mounted sensor packs, or when a JDM engine has been swapped without swapping the oil pump.
It is easier to run the internal coil on the OBD1 distributor if you've already got it, but it is still possible to use the external coil. Refer to the FAQ..
You must run the 4 wires from your CKF and TDC sensors (located on the OBD2 oil pump) to the distributor. I usually choose to deloom the harness so that the shielding stays intact for the 4 wires that run those two sensors on the oil pump. You also must de-pin the both the 4 pin distributor plug and oil pump plug (engine harness side), and have the 8 pin OBD1 distributor plug handy.
To de-pin the plugs you remove the white piece inside the plug, and push the pin diagonally towards the small plastic clip which holds the pin in place. The pin should slide out easily with very little force.. if it does not, you are doing it incorrectly and you will damage the pin. To re-install the pin, simply slide it in the same way it came out and it should clip in.. once all the pins are in pop the white piece back in as well (it prevents the pins from being pushed out).
Below is the distributor pinout, viewed from behind the plug starting in the upper left hand corner reading left to right, top to bottom (plug clip is the top).
Pin 1 - Yellow/Green (Ignitor control, pin A20 at OBD2a ECU)
Pin 2 - Blue (from oil pump) CKPP
Pin 3 - Green (from oil pump)TDCP
Pin 4 - Yellow (from 4 pin distributor plug) CYPP
Pin 5 (under pin 1) - Green (Coil output from dist. plug)<-- external coil only.
Pin 6 - White (from oil pump) CKPN
Pin 7 - Red (from oil pump) TDCN
Pin 8 - Black (from 4 pin dist. plug) CYPN
The 2 pin plug stays the same.
To convert to internal coil, you do all the steps above but omit the green wire (pin 5) from the distributor, and splice the two thick wires together at the external coil plug - yellow, and black/yellow. So simple, so clean.
I'll get some pictures of this if it gets added to the FAQ, I've done this many times and it works - no codes, runs perfectly.
Cheers,
-Scott

I think my lude is not running right but got the car going. did you get your's goin? if not maybe we can share info and get our cars going right. holla back
^^ Are you using the OBD1 injectors or the OBD2 injectors? You must match the ECU with the injector type... in your case you would have to rewire the injector plugs, and run the injector resistor OR run a chipped ECU with the appropriate ROM.
iM USING STOCK INJECTORS FROM A JDM MOTOR OBD1,BUT THE ECU IS OBD1 ALSO
THE CAR RUNS GOOD BUT I GET CEL # 9 WHICH MEANS CYP.DONT KNOW IF THE WIRES ARE NOT CONNECTED WRIGHT. I DID MY OWN HARNESS.AS FOR THE INJECTORS I THINK THERE WORKING FINE, BUT I CAN TELL YOU WHAT WIRES ARE CONNECTED DETAIL BY DETAIL TO SEE IF I DID SOMETHING WRONG.OF COURSE THATS IF YOU LIKE TO HELP ME
ON THIS SITUATION THANX

Well all and all, I did exactly what WhiteSol told me to do. I am using the obd1 engine including the ecu. I really don't know what to say. I guess I got lucky. But one thing though make sure all your wires are properly cut or replug and sodder together.
