odd rubbing/squeaking/sorta rattling noise when starting off the line... help?
Ok, I searched the crap out of this, but apparently the search is quite broken. I couldn't even find fan belt when I searched all open forums. The few results I found when doing other, non-related searches all came up in the Integra Type R forum... even when I searched in the 1992-2000 civic forum. I don't know what happened, but I was away from this site for a couple months and I came back and it's just rubbish. Searches are harder to do, BB code broken...
Anyway, sorry for the rant. My problem is just a small noise I only hear when starting out at low rpm's in either 1st or 2nd gear. It's such an odd sound, it's really hard to describe, it's high(er) pitched and sounds like it's something rubbing only for a second until I let the clutch out all the way and I'm off.
Could be described as a fan belt squeaking noise, that only lasts for 1/2 a second and isn't quite as high pitched. Someone I asked locally said it could be a heat shield thats rubbing on something when the engine bears down and twists on the motor mounts?
I dunno, I'm at a loss.
I've got a 2000 LX Sedan with 130k on the clock. Any ideas?

Mine was the heat shield surrounding exhaust pipe A, which is the pipe segment immediately downstream of the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter unit for the D16Y7 engine. I think your 2000 Civic LX has the same set up.

The crack in the shield was located near one of the attachment bolts. The fix for me was simply to place a washer on the bolt. This prevented the cracked pieces of metal from vibrating and producing noise.
Many people, however, simply remove the heat shields, though I don't really like this idea as I think they must serve an important purpose. Other people replace their cracked or damaged shields.
