Default Honda Guru's Help!!

ok well im in the middle of doing my ls/vtec swap.
quesion 1: im doing a ls/vtec swap with a b18c head in my dc and as of now im running a stock gsr intake manifold and a stock gsr throttle body.
my question is, what is the best thing to do? i have heard many people say they hate the gsr intake a throttle body because of the butterflies? is there something i can do to take them out?
so whats my best bet to have it running right without gettin an aftermarket intake mani?

question 2: when i do go boost and buy a aftermarket intake mani, what is the best combo for intake mani and throttle body? can i use my ls or a gsr or a type r?

i was told this is the place to ask questions lol and im just hoping you guys can help

well first of all the TB isnt what has the butterflie(S) in it, theres a butterfly for each intake runner that goes horizontally across the middle of the intake manifold. the TB itself only has one butterfly but thats pretty obvious.

On my last ls/vtec setup i was running the same setup youve stated. gsr head and ls block. i also boosted mine and i hated the gsr butterflys. under boost the gasket that goes on each side of the butterfly plate failed and was messing up my map reading big time.

IMO the best intake manifold for the price is and Edlebrock Victor X. thats how i fixed the butterfly gasket problem and the shitty gsr mani all together.

As for a TB i ran an ITR. but if you plan on building your engine and running more boost it wouldnt hurt to start looking at the bigger mm TB.

everything depends on the plans and power your trying to make. hope this helps

the gs-r has a 60mm throttlebody, same as B16, also with a FITV (fast idle thermo valve). the ITR has a 62mm throttlebody with no fitv, just a de-icer (loop of coolant running through, which can be bypassed if you don't live in canada). IMO your best bet is to go with a skunk2 or edelbrock victorX intake manifold, with a 65mm professional products power throttlebody (basically a 65mm itr copy, very nice quality, and CHEAP!)
good luck

yea you can use a stock TB on an aftermarket intake manifold. just when you upgrade to a bigger TB make sure you make the inlet diameter of where the TB meets the Intake manifold, the same diameter as the new bigger TB.

i would go with an edelbrock peformer X over the victor X. the Victor is designed for turbo and all motor applications for gains in the 7-10,000 range. dont think you'll be going up there in your LS/V. I would also use edelrocks 65mm TB over the professional products. I wouldn't use the skunk2 personally.
and not all b16 TB's are 60mm. OBD0 ones are 58mm. FYI

stock rod bolts on an LS bottom end, yea your not gonna rev to 10k rpm and have it last.
built bottom end in an LS you can redline at 10k rpm all day long.

I doubt it would last once without the valves floating out.
it has nothing to do with the bottom end there Chachi
