any trick to get h22 tranny case back on ?
hi guys im in the process of trying to reseal my h22 m2a4 case and im at the part where i have to line up the case with the clucth housing but im having problem trying to line up the case wtih out have that little peice that goes on the 5th gear fork it keeps falling off you guys know any trick or what not or how to line it up with out it fallin off thanks in advance.
first you have to make sure the ring at the top of the countershaft is pointed in the right direction, and then you put the case on, and what usually is my problem is that the shift fork is pitched towards you, so i take a screwdriver and lift the case up slightly and push the shift fork back a little. you're pushing through the shifter box, fyi. but you'll be able to feel which fork is stuck, the other 2 will have a little play in them when they're seated, and the one thats stuck will be super tight. so like i said, you just pick up the case enough to relieve pressure on the fork and then just push it back and the case will fall down
I've never had to mess with the forks on any of the H series transmissions I've had to rebuild, but I have noticed that you have to spread the c-clip on the countershaft bearing to get the case halves to fully seat.
I think you're referring to the plate with the "finger" on top of the mainshaft, correct? If so, the "finger" rests against the shift fork when reassembling the case halves, IIRC.

ok thanks guys ill try heavy grease but i still dont understand what part you have to fiddle with to make it slide down ? if you can show me pics that would be awesome but yea ill try it tonight thanks guys
you have i think the short one pointing straight back (away from the shifter box) and the one with a bend will be pointed a little left.
if you flip the top of the case upside down you'll see the grooves it has to go into
and i have problems with the shift forks every damn time, maybe i just suck at it

ok now i cant get the snap ring around the countershafts its wont seat all the way to the groove any trick why it doesnt seat all the way even though all the bolts are lined up andbolted on and the housing is flush?
2 ways. Use a screwdriver, a large flat tip. or a small prybar. stick it in the access hole and pry up on the nut. Or flip the trans around and with the bellhousing facing up, straddle the trans, pick it up about 4 inches and gently tap the floor with the trans. this should get the shafts to move back. Make sure the snap ring isnt jammed on the bearing.
plus i guess i didnt get the right lock ring piliers so im goin to get the right tool tomrrow at sears hope this help lol
i use just a pair of needlenose pliers, its works fine
and then i don't usually even have to hit it on the ground, i just pick it up and let it drop a few inches, and stop it from falling more, doesn't hit anything and it snaps right back in, i've not had much luck with the screwdriver/prybar trick
