H22 Tranny problem
EG w/ H22 OBD1.
I can't shift into 1/3/5 gears. My car has been sitting around for 2.5 years, I want to drive it again. I miss it.
Anyone have similar problems? Here's my car if any one knows me, hit me up.

Re: H22 Tranny problem (vx_hatch)
How is your setup? Did you run the shift cables through the firewall or down through the shifter hole and then back up to the engine comartment to the tranny? I think I have my shift cable too tight and with too many bends. It might have messed up the syncros. It used to work fine but too many races and powershifts must've messed something up inside. I changed the fluids already. Thanks

man.. thats weird.. i would just look at the cables.. and make sure they are not getting hung up on anything... take ur console apart and make sure ur shifter is actually hooked up rite & that nothing came loose.. umm... good luck

If you pump up the clutch will it shift? Or does it not go in period. What were you doing when this happened?
I had a similar issue with 1st being very hard to get into gear (had to pump the clutch a few times for it to go), 3rd (was really notchy), 5th (really notchy) and reverse (had to pump clutch). Turned out my throw out bearing was the problem, also replaced my tranny fluid with redline and i havent had a problem since.

Can you shift into those gears even with the car off? Try seeing if it will go into those gear by moving the shifter levers directly on the tranny. If it still doesn't go into gear then you can rule out your shift cables being kinked.
Did you ever mishift hard or grind 3rd gear? I know this is a common thing with h series trannies. You may have bent a shift fork in the tranny or popped one of the pins that hold those shift/gear select forks out.
BTW Phantom grey hatches are the best!

Sounds like a shift fork.
I didn't know they went bad just sitting there, but it could be the tranny fluid.
2.5 years is a long ******* time to let it sit and not turn it over, there could be other serious problems you can encounter.

Re: H22 Tranny problem (DarkKnight[DMD])
Thanks for the tips, guys. The car sat around due to life changes and the tranny problem. I got married, bought a house, next thing you know, its been 2.5 years. I kept saying "okay, next weekend I'll work on the car..."
The tranny problem happened while I was driving in traffice. I was going slow in 1st gear then all of a sudden, it popped out of gear and I couldn't get it back in. So I mustard home in 2nd & 4th gear.
I did always have problems with quick shifting into 3rd. It would grind if I throw it too fast. With the car off, I can manually push/pull the shift lever at the tranny case and it'll go it. I did think it was either the fork or the bearing but never got around to opening up the tranny.
I've been kinda out of the scene for awhile - any new products for shift linkage and shifter for this kind of hybrid setup? Thanks.

Also, if it just doesn't go in at all, it could be one of the clips for the cables. I had to ghetto rig mine until i got my clips from Honda, and when they would pop off I would either lose, 2-4-R or 1-3-5.
By the way, that is one sweet looking EG.

Yeah, I'll just have to commit myself to opening up the dash and double check everything.
Do you recall this cover? I was there when hybrids first got started. EG/LS motor at that time (poor college student)
