if you've got money to spend then you can do a k20 head w/ a k24 block and a dc5 type-r tranny.
if you dont wanna spend too much money, then a h22 head w/ an h23 block, h2b kit, b-series civic type-r tranny.

simple & peppy : B16, Semi build LS
simple & quick: B18C5, LS-T, K20
ridiculous: K20-T, B18C5-T
of course there are PLENTY of other routes you can go. just some ideas, and a range of where about they land. If $$ is no issue, skys the limit. If it is, you need to decide what you want. (reliable, torque, whp, 1/8 times, 1/4 times, DD) This site has just become your BEST friend, if not it should be.

you could do a full k20 swap for simplicity, but k20/k24 will ulitmitly yield the most all motor power, short of an nsx engine. like rpared01 said, put an dc5 type-s/r tranny on there. then if you choose to boost it and build the block and head, you will have one serious machine. the k swap route is still the most expensive, again short of an nsx engine. so a budget build would be an h22 head with an f23 block (a.k.a. Frankenstein/G23)
i would also do some suspension work too. koni shocks and ground control coilovers seem to work for most people on H/T.
after that you can either put jdm type r front and rear lip, power folding mirrors, that kind of stuff. or you could leave it stock appearance-wise. i would definitely go for and rsx/s2000/'06+ civic steering wheel as i have an ek as well and i wish every day that i had a smaller steering wheel. of course, appearance stuff is all up to you.
do your research, use the search button and you shall be rewarded
