Default question about D15z1 engine

I currently have a 1994 honda civic vx which comes with a D15z1 engine in it. I know that the engine is Vtec-e but what I wanted to know is if I can but a D16 head on it and also some pistons or something just for now untill I get my block built. And if I can what pistons and jank like that should I use....

Thank

i wouldn't mess with that block to much ive heard the vtec-e blocks arent very strong although you could probably do a mini-me imo work v.s return wouldnt be significant enough for me id get a z6 swap and mess with that

it's pretty pointless, just drive it stock and spend money on the cosmetics....also enjoy the MPG, because I do....

you can put a z6 head but the compression will be realllly low because the z1 piston have a MASSIVE dish in em..... you can even run a safe 8psi on an z1 engine lol

It's cheaper to just drop in the d16z6.

Hey man whats up fellow vx owner here. When i had the stock vx motor in i too though of different way to increase hp. I ended up dropping a valve @ 180k on my z1 motor while cruising down the highway, seriously i was just cruising it.

I now have a d15b (with ex tranny) with d16z6 head and y7 cam gear to correct the timing. Before i put in the y7 cam gear I ran a 16.7 e.t. @ 85 mph (same as a stock si), When i did correct the timing my car got a lot faster and vtec hit harder. I expect to hit low 16's next drag;previous drag i ran 2 times first was 16.9, 2nd was 16.7. I pulled those E.T.'s with a failing input shaft bearing in my transmission. I didn't bother to reduce the air pressure in my tires or anything like that, just went from the street to the starting line.

The whole point is i rebuilt the d15b and the z6 head for $800, and im way faster then i would have been if i put that SAME $800 into the d15z1 motor. Trust me dude, just swap out the motor for a d15b or d16z6 and start modding that engine!

dont try a head swap, it wont be worth it. compression will be too low as stated before. not to mention the insanely long gear'd trans.

ya dont do a head swap. The D15Z1 head has a 25mm chamber. While all the rest of them are 32+mm. Which makes the CR low as ****. Drop in a Z6 or a D15B (basically the same engine, Z6 is better IMO).

Low CR would be really boost-friendly, no?

according to this site a z1 with a z6 head nets a compression ratio of 6.48:1 way to low for anything

yes low compression is good for boost, but the explosion happening in the cylinder instead of the head is not. and thats how the z1/y5 were designed. the piston takes most of the force from the detonation, not the head. in a z1/y5 the head is basically flat, no chamber.

a y5 head isnt flat. The pistons in a Y5 are similar to those in a Y7. The Y5 isnt like the Z1 at all. And the lower CR will be good for boost but the problem is that the rods will give out around 220 BHP. So its pretty pointless to do it for boost as the 200WHP mark is easy to hit without any modifications. And the motor already has decently low CR (like 9:1)

I don't know what si you're talking about. my 93 si ran 15.7-15.8. I only had intake. and a 2 inch exhaust, maybe 1.75.

just buy a JDM D15b, put your ex trans on it and call it a day. those motors are like $495 before shipping. why wouldnt you buy one?

the z6 has more oil passages for the bearings than the y8 from what i have read. prolly why the y8's always spin bearings.
