Default Honda-tech swap gurus only!!!

I have been searching for hours and have not gotten any solid answers.I put an obd2 gsr swap in my ej1(ex) I used an obd1 p72 ecu.The motor starts right up with no problem and idles well but my tach and speedo do not work at all,I have been reading about having to repin the dizzy but I'm not clear as to what wires to mess with. Also vtec is not engaging I also read about having to rewire vtec from the shock tower harness to the ecu and again I'm not clear as of what wires to rewire. Can any one point me to the right answers?

wow did you not do any wiring lol. but you speedo and tach are controlled via a sensor on the transmission I believe. That might be faulty. And yes you need to wire vtec and since you using a p72 you must wire a knock and iatb as well. If i were you i would just invest in a chipped p28 so that you only have to wire vtec

Did you use an '00 - '01 integra engine harness by any chance? If so you will need to add the tach signal wire.

You will need to run a wire from the distributor (blue wire coming from the distributor, which also wont be there if its a '00 - '01 distributor.) to the tach test wire in drivers side rear corner of the engine bay, if you aren't in a huge hurry I can try to figure out exactly where it goes in the engine harness sometime this weekend. As for the vtec, the chassis is already prewired for vtec where its an EX, leaving you with only the engine harness to deal with. If you used a GS-R, ITR engine harness you wont need to wire anything at all except the knock sensor (if using a chipped P28 or an ECU with the KS disabled you wont have to wire the KS) If you used an RS/LS/GS you will need to wire in vtec, easiest way would be to remove the vtec wiring from your old EX harness and add it into the integra harness.

Since my car is an ex and came with vtec I don't need to wire anything else,I have a chipped p72 that has the knock and butterfly delete,So all need is to wire the tach?

makes it eazyer if you make it to obd1 screw obd2, so for you to make this rite you will need obd1 stuff from your d16z6. LIKE harness, injectors and if you can get your hands on a obd1 gsr dizzy

well everything works except my speedo, tach, cruise control and I think vtec is not engaging either.

I'm guessing you've never done this before, but using an OBD2 integra harness allows you to run an OBD2 engine in an OBD1 civic or integra without any of this cutting and hacking and component swapping bullshit. There is nothing any different electrically when comparing OBD1 and OBD2 distributors, injectors and alternators (except the canadian OBD2 alternators) Only the connectors are different, and running an OBD1 ECU none of the OBD2 only sensors (CKF for example) matter because the ECU isn't even looking for them. The only snag you may hit is that '00 - '01 Integra OBD2B engine harnesses lack the tach signal wire because those vehicles get their tach signal from the ECU, not the distributor like OBD1 and OBD2A civics and integras.

Listen to this guy he is right. Just leave everything on the motor obd2 and run a chipped ecu and your golden. For your harness, wire up the tach like stated.

alright I think a narrowed down the problem,my VSS!The speedometer only works when the motor is cold thus allowing vtec to engage(ohh and it engages alright) but after 10 min of driving the speedometer neddle starts fluctuating and then it stops working. So since the ecu needs to the speed of the car to engage vtec I think thats my problem.

As far as wiring the tach my motor is out of a 2001 GSR so which wires will I need to tap/splice?

I can't belive only one person has posted factual information regarding this issue.I guess I'm the first and only to swap a 2001 B18c1 in my 93 civic!

You will need to add the missing blue wire to the distributor, there should be an unused spot on the igniter for it. Run this back to driver's side rear of the engine bay and splice it into the tach test wire. It should ideally be pinned into the correct location but I don't have an engine harness right in front of me to check and see where that might be.

I highly doubt that, most people just do it differently, most people either use an OBD1 civic harness and splice on OBD2 plugs (stupid idea IMO considering there are much better alternatives) or they use an OBD1 civic harness and use OBD1 distributor, alternator and injectors (not exactly a stupid idea, but not cost effective if you already have perfectly good OBD2 components) The ideal solution involves using an OBD2A integra harness ('96 - '99) which has the tach signal wire.

The wire you speak of is it the blue wire with the rubber plug thats part of the shock tower harness? So all I need to do is take the distributor cap off and connect a wire to the empty slot on the igniter and then connect it to the blue wire at the shock tower harness.
