Default ex vs. si tranny

I have a d16z6 ex civic(94). The tranny is show signs of wear and I asked around if I should get it rebuilt or it there another, better performing tranny out there(I have plans to supercharge it in the upcoming year, I have the whole kit, I just want to wait until I get a DD). And a few have told me to get a SI tranny(92-95 SI). I thought they were the exact same transmission? Is there any difference or benefit? Is not, or if so, what would be your suggestion?

I thought the Si was geared a little lower? IIRC, it was only in 5th gear or something?

I could be wrong. I don't mess with the D series. I upgrayyed.

if my findings are correct:

92-95 Civic EX D16Z6
1st 3.250
2nd 1.900
3rd 1.250
4th 0.909
5th 0.702
rev 3.153
fd 4.250

92-95 Civic Si / 93-95 del Sol Si D16Z6
1st 3.250
2nd 1.900
3rd 1.250
4th 0.909
5th 0.750
rev 3.153
fd 4.250

so yes, I was wrong, and BSerious was correct. 5th gear does differ from EX to SI

so they are pretty much the same, 5th being very slightly shorter and 5th doesnt really matter anyway. There are gears that people take from the ZC trans and use in the Si trans to make it shorter yet, thats if you want to start taking things apart.

Difference is in the 5th. Get the 96-00 EX. Same gear stronger fork.

Thanx guys. Plenty of useful info. I thought there no difference, or very little if any. I bought the SI tranny anyways, it was a good price. Tnax Honda-Tech again.

Please use the SI tranny! Its got the proper gearing for the VTEC, EX trannies are much longer which are not as fun.
