Are all d-series trannies the same for 92-2000 civic si, or ex?
I have a 96 del sol, with 16y7, and want the better tranny, do I need to find one from 96-2000, or can I use 92---and up, without changing the flywheel...
-sorry if it's a noob question.....

You can use either a 92-95 si tranny or a 96-00 ex tranny for an upgrade. 96-00 ex tranny is the better option due to the stronger shift forks. However the 92-95 si and 96-00 ex tranny's are almost indentical otherwise

Actually I believe the 92-95 EX and 96-00 EX are identical as far as gear ratios are concerned...the 92-95 si has a slightly shorter 5th gear than the others
92-00 EX - .702 5th
92-95 Si - .750 5th

I haven't tried to learn alot about trannys or gear ratios, so excuse my lack of knowledge but---- what is the preferred final drive?
and do they all bolt up without changing flywheels or anything odd?

Sorry, I meant 5th gear. Shorter gears mean that the revs are higher and acceleration is better.
