Body work questions
I've always bought cars in good condition for the simple fact that I have never messed with any body work. But my new project car requires quite a bit of body work, mostly dings and a small amount of honda cancer. I've searched but still haven't answered my questions. First, the car has had about 5 different paint jobs and as of now is sanded to bare metal in some spots, and others are different colors due to the different levels of sanding. In order to fix the dings, do I need to sand it all down to bare metal or just leave it as is? What is the best filler to cover dings up? Second, the rust that needs fixed, should I just cut those areas out and weld new metal in? I am trying to do this as cost effective as possible, but don't mind spending the money to do it right. TIA, Corey.
the rust areas cut them out if they are bad enough. and with the dings are they highs or lows? lowes i think IMO are alot easier to get rid of with a body hammer and some basic tools. for filler i use PRO 7 which is really easy to sand but its a finishing filler. just make sure all the areas are feather edged so you dont get bulls eyes all over your car.
