I got a set of HID's about a year or two ago. I was so happy because my original light output sucked ballz. I have JDM CTR headlights which have a H4 bulb housing. . The set that i got is a ANALOG set, using a magnetic core instead of the digital setup which uses a digital circut board. Its a plug and play kit, so as soon as i got home, i installed them. Turn the car on, switch the headlights on and WTF? These WEAK, and i mean beyond WEAK halogen bulbs come on. I look at my buddies standing around as we install them, and they are dying laughing at me. i got back into the car and flick on my HIGH BEAMS, and suddenly...HID! beautiful BLINDING 6k HID's in your face.
The HID's only work when i have my high beams on! WTF!? I have looked over all connections, all plugs, everything, and it all seems fine. I dont have a problem leaving them on high so i have the HID's, actually the halogen bulbs are so weak i honestly couldnt drive my car at night with just those on.
I got pulled over right before i put her away for the winter. WHY you ask?! becuase my headlights were TOO BRIGHT! and of course when the officer questioned me about it, he saw that i had my high beams on with my lights. luckily for me, the cop must have gotten a more important call because as he was running my info when he suddenly put his lights on, pulled up next to me, rolled his window down, literally threw my information into my window, said get it fixed and drove off!
Wondering if anyone else had this problem with there HID kits?
any possible solutions?
any info is big help....

easy fix....the h4 bulb has a 3 pin connector
the hi-beam and low-beam wires are most probally backwards on the connector itself
either re-pin the connector or cut the two wires and swap there places....pm me if you need more help

hmmm...never thought of that. I didnt touch any of the wires or any OEM components. Like i said it was a plug and play kit. simply removed old, put it new.
I have a plug and play HID kit with 4800k and the only time they're on is on HIGH beams. I've gotten used to it but everytime my fiance gets in the car, she says, "your high beams are on". LoL!

Oh, and the only thing I can think of is possibly your low beam circuit doesn't produce enough voltage/current for the HIDs, that's why they have them setup for use on the high beam circuit....

I'm not for sure if the voltage/current would be any different but this is the only thing I can think of as to why the are setup this way...

A lot of the badly designed HID kits don't do high beam and low beam, just one or the other. The stock bulbs have separate filaments for high and low beam, while HID bulbs don't and need various tricks to get both beams. Quite a few of the guys selling cheap HID "conversion kits" don't even bother.
