Default f22 auto trans into a 6th gen (searched.. )

tried searching, however I was unsuccessful

I know an f22 trans will bolt up to an f23, but will it work exactly the same? Are the torque converters interchangable? Will everything plug right in? Is the gearing similar? Use the same diameter/spline axle?

And if so, why would/should/could I not replace my dying f23 auto with an f22 auto?

And no, I dont want to convert to manual, the car is strictly a commuter..

If I'm not mistaken, the F22 trans' use a separate transmission control module (TCM), while the F23's have the TCM built into the ECU.

I wouldn't think it would work because the F23 ECU won't run the car correctly if it doesn't see the trans, and the F22 TCM probably needs some sort of input from the ECU which the F23 ECU won't provide because it wasn't designed for an external TCM. /run-on sentence

I don't think it will work.
