I have no idea what you're talking about. Tension wire?? I don't think there's anything on a car suspension that has any tension wires. I've seen the factory refer to spark plug wires as "high tension cords" but that's about it.

Are we discussing limiting straps? All they do is prevent full suspension extension, to the point of preload if adjusted to do so.

yes that what im talking about. The guy i spoke with said he used "tension wire". Where do you get the limiting straps from, and how do i install them?

I have only ever heard of limiting straps being used on offroad vehicles, and drag bikes.

i think he had it wrapped around the upper control arm and the lower control arm.

I see them on a lot of offroad vehicles that use a non-coilover shock with a loose coil spring. I would imagine that they're used allow articulation of the suspension without the spring falling out.

I've seen them on some Civic drag cars as well but I'm not sure of the theory behind them. Limit front-end lift/launch squat possibly?

A single strap that connects the upper arm to the lower arm? That would be totally pointless.

the upper and lower control arms move together, so i don't see how it is useful? its not like the knuckle is seperating from the two.

In the case of a Honda, such straps/wires would have to attach between the LCA or some point on the lower part of the shock, up to the top hat area, to limit the amount that the shock can extend. You would not attach them directly to both control arms.

For cases where the suspension can actually move enough to cause driveshaft or axle contact with a hard point, its cheaper and easier to limit droop with a strap than through shortening the shock shaft.

Also, offroad vehicles can have a tendency to "top out" their shocks, which can have a detrimental effect on their lifespan depending on how hard and how often it happens. Again, the strap is a quick and cheap fix.

i know about limiting straps, i was just wondering why one would do it in such a manner that the op stated (between both control arms)
