Odyssey error code 0172, Please help
replace the Egr valve and clean the port. if it has less than 100k then the dealer will good will it and the repair should be free. This is where I would start without looking at the car

A clogged EGR port causes a too lean condition, and if anything besides a P0401, would throw a P0171.
I did not say the port was clogged. The valve is opening at times it shouldnt, putting un-needed exhaust gas back into the engine when it shouldnt. or the lift on the egr valve cold be too great. And this will absolutely cause a 172 rich code. more exhaust gas with not enough air will cause this.
Cleaning the port is just smart to do, and it should at least be checked.
Now one thing i would like to know is where Grmmm if from. We have really bad fuel here in the southeast and faulty egr valves and clogged ports are an everyday occurance.. I noticed you were from the west coast where the fuel is much much better and egr problems are from what I understand few and far between, correct me if im wrong. I get this info from the honda techline guys.
But i bet if the data list is observed the egr valve lift volts are going all over the place.
We definitely have/had our share of EGR issues over here as well. Soccer moms need to open up the throttle a bit and clean out the soft carbons
Most guys at techline are a bunch of weirdos anyways

I give up and let the garage people to handle that. They clean the egr as the people suggest. after that the situation is worse. van sent back to them to check and still didn't know what to do. More error jump up show misfire on 5, 6 cylinders and a lot of thing I forget.
the van had been service by dealer for egr clogged 2 years before and since I just pass one month even still under 60000 miles. They charged me $300 to modify the egr as manufacture suggest. van is 1999 which they extend the warrenty for 8 Years or/and 80000 miles.
