Default Just GOT MY SWAP TONIGHT :D Couple quick q's tho..

hey all, finally got my new b16a2 into my 98ex..and WOW!!! WHAT A DIFF!!!
Couple questions tho:

1. The headlights/crappy indiglo gauges dim slightly under acceleration, and then get a tad brighter when i let up...distributor?? nothing to worry about??
2. I can't sqeal going into 2nd, or 3rd like I could with my D16Y8, bad clutch?

any info is appreciated!

p.s. this thing pulls like a raped ape once u get the R's up there!!!

thanks again,
mike

dont get the gsr ecu because its was design to only run on gsr head. Gsr have 2 butterflies point while b16 head and type r head have one. So you will feel the lag on low rpm until 2nd vtec kicks in. I try it before and it suck major *** and I wouldnt do it if i were u.

it wasn't my choice, the guy didn't ask me...he just did it...he said the 99-00 si' harness wouldn't work on my 98 ex...what would be the best ECU to use??

thanks,
mike

1) your vtec is engaging too early. you need to get a civic SI ecu or hondata then have it tuned.
2)it might be the alternator on the motor
3)sounds like the clutch or your just not used to it yet.

okay, thanks.....does this mean since the VTEC is engaging too soon, is it also adding more fuel too soon?

thanks,
mike

BTW: would a fields VTEC controller pretty much take care of this..

thanks again,
mike

anyone else got any input on this?? I really love the added power, and the sound is MUCH more defined than my SOHC....the guy that did my swap even got me a Civic Type R valve cover because the other one was chipped...

it was great!

thanks again,
mike

I'm running a 97 Del Sol vtec in mine. plugs right into the EX harness. You need a 96-97 Del Sol vtec ecu (OBD2 P30). That's your best bet.

go ahead and get a VTEC controller and bump up the VTEC to bout 5500-5700, it'll feel a lot better

damnit, majority of people have no ******* idea how vtec and the secondaries work on the GSR and it spreads a lot of misinformation. Let me spell it out how it works straight out of the Helms manual.

VTEC engages at 4400rpm
Secondary butterflies open in intake manifold at 5750rpm
Redline is 8100rpm

so is fuel cutoff at 8400 then? I thought redline is 8400, at least that is when it cuts out for me..

thanks again,
mike

p.s. so..i have a b16a2, there are no secondary butterflies that open right?

ok redline does not mean fuel cut off........ fuel cut off=rev limiter...i think its 8400 on a gsr ecu and no you dont have secondaries on your b16, and your A/C shouldnt need recharging.....did they even put it back on your car?? hook it up?

the Si ECU won't work on my car, the 96-98 OBDII ECU's are different than the 99-00 ones...the engine came with a 99' Si ECU (because it was a 99 Si engine) and he said it wouldn't work..

thanks for the offer tho!!!

dimming is the alternator - not getting enough power, yank it and bring it to NAPA or any place that checks alternators its probably bad. If not, double check all your grounds... and if that dont work, give it a swift kick and hope nothing falls off

Unless they took the stock compressor off the motor and left it all hooked up to do the swap (HIGHLY unlikely), they had to unhook both your a/c lines and let all the refrigerant out. So, yes you need to recharge it.
