can i put a vtech head on a ls motor
i have a 93 civic. i also have a 1.8 ls motor and tranny i would like to drop in it.i think it is a dohc motor but not v-tech.are the v-tech cams more agressive?can i put a v-tech head on it and get better results? will i need to change the ecu as well.
I see that you are new so I will let you slide. Before you start anymore post make sure you search first or you will have a rough time around here. Search Ls/vtec (not v-tech)
There are many posts and how-tos on this topic. Some will say one thing, others will say something else.
Generally there is more than you'd expect to building a reliable Honda frankenstein motor. With this particular engine, pistons need replacing (for bigger valve reliefs to accomodate the different head), you need to block one oil port in the head and create a new one to feed the Vtec that this block was never designed for. You also need to address the connecting rod dilemma. Some builders will say to get beefier rods and new ARP rod bolts while others will say to run stock rods all together. You will need to buy either a ITR Ecu (for a basic map similiar to what you'd be running), or a chipped P28 which you can order with a custom map specifically designed for your build. There are a few more things like running new wiring (if you drive a non-vtec car) and possibly buying some other odds and ends depending on what OBD version your engine is. I know there is a couple more details to this, but that's why your going to do more research. Good luck.
