Default Car won't go into gear....

I finally completed my rebuild and I was ready to take the car for a test drive. I push the clutch in but the car will not go into gear. I turn the car off and it shifts into gear no problem. So I leave the car in first with the clutch pressed to the floor the car starts but it rolls slightly. I can feel light clutch pressure but I still cannot shift with the car on. I bled the hydro system but maybe not well enough. I really don't to rip my tranny off. Anyone know possible causes? Thanks...

Does the clutch pedal have excess freeplay? If so, try adjusting the pushrod at the top of the pedal.

If its not the push rod on the pedal then its probably the clutch. What kind of clutch you running and how many miles are on it?

How do i adjust or check the free play?...after i bleed the system the pedal sticks to the floor could it be that i bled the system wrong? The clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate are all brand new. I drove the car 2 weeks ago with no problems at all.

How did you bleed the system? Did the release fork that contacts the slave cylinder break?

The fork is fine and moving...so i don't think its the fork. To bleed the system i pumped the clutch pedal 25 times...held the pedal to the floor. Then released the bleed screw....relieve some pressure...then tighten it again. Pumped the clutch again...it doesnt seem as strong as it used to be however. I doubt it is the clutch springs...but if it was what would cause this??? I mean it is a brand new clutch and i know i did not install it backwards.

You may still have air remaining in the system. Repeat the bleeding procedure multiple more times and be sure to keep the reservoir of the clutch master cylinder full of brake fluid during the entire procedure.

That little air would cause this much of a problem???

Air, unlike fluid, is highly compressible.

Good point..fluid is incompressible. Ill redo the bleeding process and hope it solves the problem

So i bled the system again yet its still not working. The pressure at the pedal is not to strong either...and it is not building pressure as i pump. For example, while bleeding the system when i released the bleed screw it didnt spray...it sort of squirt like a weak squirt gun? what would cause low pressure??..possibility air could still be in the lines?

You can't bleed the system without a power bleeder or using the bottle method. Look for the DIY on here.

False. I have bled my clutch by myself in my garage more than once with no issues.

What car do you have? I have a 99 Si and could not bleed the system without using the bottle method. My brother is a Master Mechanic and told me the same thing.

Mine did the same thing when a flywheel/clutch bolt had broken off in my transmission.

So judging by the number of responses i guess it can be caused by many different things. I am gonna go with swapping the master cyclinder. I've bleed the system 3 times so I cannot see that it is still possible to have air in the lines. The clutch fork moves but I don't think the pressure is high enough for it to fully disengage the clutch. Taking the transmission off to check my flywheel bolts is alot of work so i want ensure that it cannot be anything else Thanks for all the responses...ill update later tonight

I replaced the clutch master cylinder, and it did not fix the problem. So next i pulled of the tranny to expect the clutch, it was not the problem. I replaced the slave cylinder, and wallah the problem was fixed. Just a fyi...just because the slave cylinder is moving...does not mean that its is working properly or at least to its full potential. Thank everyone for the help.
